Have you ever noticed, after attending a concert, some kind of ringing in your ear? Is some kind of noise continuously going back in your head? Or ear feels clogged
This happens to most people after attending a concert. This condition is known as Tinnitus.
Tinnitus is a condition when an individual hears continuous noise in the head after some kind of exposure to loud noise. This can be buzzing, continuous whistling in the ear, roaring or hissing in the ear.
How do we hear a sound?
We hear sound when the sound wave transmits through our outer ear to the middle of the ear canal and inner ear.
We have some hairs at the end of our ear canal that transform the sound wave into the electrical signal that is then sent to the brain via the auditory nerve.
After long exposure to loud sounds, the hair cell that transmits the sound wave to the brain gets damaged and is unable to send the proper amount of electrical signal. This then causes an illusion in the brains’ auditory nerve and result in some kind of hearing problem.
This inability to hear the sound caused by damaged hair cells is referred to as Tinnitus.
A normal human being can resist up to 80 dB of the sound wave. But if you are exposed to any noise or sound above that can pretty much give some kind of negative impact on your ear if you are exposed to it for a long time.
After long exposure to loud sounds like in the concert, the hair cell in the ear gets damaged and the hearing capability is altered. Surely the sound will get higher than 80dB and can reach up to 140dB depending on how far you are from the speakers.
People can feel some kind of buzzing in the ear and this situation can last from 12 hr to 72hr.
Prevention is better than cure
In order to prevent such kind of situation, a preventive measure can be taken post-concert. Earbuds and earplugs are a great way to do so. You can get earbuds in medical stores and is easily available. But if you are unable to do so, you can use either cotton and make a ball of it and use it as an earplug before the concert.
Another way to avoid loud music is by using ear muffs. The same thing that you use during the winter to avoid cold. They can be a great way to avoid the loud sound.
In the concert, you will want to be at a decent distance to avoid loud sound directly into your ear. You can listen to music from a good distance and still can enjoy the show.
What to avoid?
Ringing in the ear can also be triggered if you are exposed to any of the following:
- Caffeine: While caffeine is great to boost energy, it also comes with a lot of drawbacks with it. One of them is ringing in the ear. Try to avoid caffeine for a couple of days, if you are a caffeine freak. This will help you greatly to cure the ringing in the ear after the concert.
- Salt: Salt is also considered as one of the factors that resist the flow of sound waves to the brain cells. Try avoiding salt intake and you can observe a fast recovery of your tinnitus.
- Alcohol: People who drink alcohol tend to listen more to that buzzing noise in the ear than those who don’t drink. Alcohol has never been beneficial to health in any manner. So, avoiding alcohol is a good way for faster recovery.
Ways to prevent & stop ringing in the ear after the concert
While there is no medical treatment to tinnitus, you can still get rid of the temporary ringing of the sound in your ear via the following methods:
✅ Avoid exposure to loud sound
After such a loud sound in the concert and the ringing in the ear, you probably want to avoid loud noise for a decent 4 to 5 days. Avoiding loud sound is definitely the best way to help you with the ringing of your ear.
✅ White noise
White noise is the sound with no wordings in them. You may suffer from sleeping issue and concentration on work due to that ringing in the ear. You can avoid that ringing by softly playing the white noise at low volume.
This will help you get rid of that sound in your ear and you can also enjoy the soothing sound of oceans, rain, birds, and instrumental while you can also get relaxed.
✅ Ginkgo biloba
